LIVE Auction

What is LIVE Auction

Note: If viewers can’t see the ongoing LIVE Auction, remind them to update their TikTok app to the latest version (45.9) by downloading from the App Store or Play Store from 7 July 2026 onwards.
image
LIVE Auction is a real-time, interactive shopping format where sellers can sell auction-listed items during LIVE and set a starting bid price. Viewers can then bid a specific price for the item and the highest bidder wins the right to purchase the product at the bidded price. Unlike traditional e-commerce, pricing and demand are determined in the moment, with countdown timers, limited inventory, and visible competition creating urgency.Shoppers can ask questions, see live demonstrations, and engage alongside other buyers, transforming shopping from passive browsing into a participatory, entertainment-driven experience that blends content, community, and commerce.
⚠️ Key Principle: Auction products can only be sold through the auction method — they cannot be sold as regular products. You can toggle a product back to regular listing later if needed.
How does the overall Auction process look like?
  1. Seller goes live → starts auction (set auction duration, starting price)
  2. Viewers bid in real time → timer counts down
  3. Last highest bid wins → auto checkout

How To Create Auction Product Listings

Before you can start a LIVE Auction, sellers need to create auction product listings. Auction product listings can be seen and used during an auction in a LIVE session. Once your LIVE Auction has ended, shoppers cannot search or view these products in your shop or elsewhere. There are two methods to create auction product listings.

Important Guidelines

Topic
Method A: Product Listing via Seller Center PC
Method B: Temporary Auction
Product listing usageAuction product listings created via Seller Center PC can be used repeatedly across multiple livestream sessions.Temporary auction product listings can only be used once in a single livestream session.
Product visibilityAll auction product listings are only visible in a livestream (regardless of whether an auction is ongoing or not), and buyers cannot search or view these auction product listings anywhere else.
Product quotaYou can add up to 300 SKU's into the Auction tab, as auction product listings have a separate quota from your regular products within the "Buy now" tab.
Convert product
  • An auction product listing created via Seller Center PC can be converted back into a regular-priced product listing at anytime, simply toggle off "Auction product" within the listing settings.
  • Similarly, you can also turn existing products in your shop into auction products by toggling the option on.
    • Keep in mind the product is no longer searchable once you toggle Auction product on.
    • If you want your regular product to remain searchable, while also having an auction product listing for the same product - you’ll need to create two listings: one auction listing and one regular listing.
    • If the auction product toggle is not available within a particular product listing, this means this product is not eligible to be converted into an auction product listing.
Temporary auction product listings cannot be converted back into a regular-priced product listing.

Method B: Temporary Auction

Accessible via LIVE Manager PC or TikTok App, Temporary Auction allows you to quickly create auction-only product listings before or during a LIVE. Product listings created via Temporary Auction will go through a quick moderation review before it can be used as an auction product (typically, less than 2 minutes). As the name suggests, this product listing is temporary and will not sync to your TikTok Shop once the LIVE has ended. If you wish to reuse it in your next LIVE, simply recreate the temporary auction for the same product once again.
Note: Certain luxury brands may not be listed via temporary product listings. However, they can still be used for LIVE auctions if listed as a normal product listing.

Via LIVE Manager PC > LIVE Console

image
Step 1: Add temporary auction. At LIVE Console > Auctions tab > Click on +Add > Select Add temporary auction.⚠️ If there is no temporary auction available for selection, this means your account is not eligible to use this function. It is recommended for you to create auction product listings via Seller Center PC instead.

Step 2: Complete the details required.Product description:
  • Product name
  • Category (select from the dropdown)
Auction settings:
  • Starting bid price
  • Time limit (Duration of auction - 10s/15s/20s/30s/1 min/2 min)
  • Quantity (stock inventory - up to 300)
  • Auction format
    • Extended bidding: If someone bids within the final seconds, the timer resets (extends) by a set number of seconds (5s/7s/10s). This prevents last-second sniping.
    • Sudden end: The auction runs for the duration you set, once the countdown timer ends. Viewers must bid before time expires.
Shipping settings
  • Package weight & dimensions
  • COD setting (toggle on/off — default is OFF)

image
Step 3: Your newly created temporary auction product listings will display in Auction items.
  • A brief notification displays to indicate it's undergoing review. Once the review is completed, this notification will automatically disappear.
  • To edit your temporary auction listing, click on the pencil icon (edit starting bid price, duration, auction format)
  • Once you create a temporary auction listing, it is automatically assigned a dynamic sequential number (e.g. #1) in front of the product name.
  • Each individual listing will display a sequential number that updates in real-time once each item completed a successful bid.

Use Temporary Auctions to Simplify Fulfillment

When a temporary auction product listing is created, it is automatically assigned a dynamic sequential number (e.g. #1) in front of the product name. This dynamic sequential number will update in real-time once each item completes a successful bid.
image
image
During the auctionOnce the bidding has been completed, hosts just needs to announce the sold unit number (e.g. "Item #1 is sold!")The next temporary auction item will automatically be assigned as #2, and this dynamic numbering will continue for the subsequent temporary auction items alongside each successful bid.
image
It is recommended for hosts to immediately label numbers on the winning item with a sticky note with the corresponding number, to easily manage fulfillment after the LIVE session.Packers can easily pick by number → fewer errors, faster packing.
Note:
  • If you start a temporary auction (e.g., #5) but no one places a bid, the next time you run a temporary auction it will still be labelled as #5. This is because there was no successful bid.
  • If someone wins #5 (regardless of whether payment is successful), the next auction you run will be labelled as #6.
This numbering system helps bidders easily identify which specific unit they're bidding on while providing sellers' clear visibility into how many items have already sold via temporary auction.
image

Cash on Delivery: On or Off?

You can choose whether your auction product supports Cash on Delivery (COD) during auction product listing creation. When creating auction product listings via Seller Center PC or via Temporary Auction, COD is disabled (OFF) by default.

Advantages of COD

Advantage
Detail
Higher participation rate
Users can bid without needing a pre-bound bank card, increasing the number of active bidders and driving up auction prices.
Broader audience reach
COD is a commonly used payment method for buyers — excluding it means a significant portion of your potential buyer base will lose the opportunity to complete a successful order.
Lower barrier to entry
Users can bid without needing a pre-bound bank card, increasing the number of active bidders and driving up auction prices.

Disadvantages of COD

Risk
Detail
Non-payment risk
COD winners have no financial commitment at bid time. They can refuse the package on delivery, leaving you with shipping costs and unsold inventory.
Frivolous bidding
Without pre-bound payment card, users may bid casually with no intent to pay, inflating prices artificially and causing items to go unsold.
Inventory lock-up
A won auction locks inventory. If the COD buyer refuses the package on delivery, that item was unavailable to genuine buyers for the entire fulfillment window.
Limited seller recourse
If a buyer refuses a COD package, the 5-minute payment window doesn't apply (it's already shipped). Seller bears both return shipping cost and re-listing effort.
Seller/Item Profile
Suggested Setting
High-value / scarce items (collectibles, luxury)
❌ COD OFF — protects against non-payment on expensive items
High-volume / low-price temporary auctions
COD ON — maximizes bidders; individual non-payment risk is low
New sellers testing auction
COD ON initially — build audience, then evaluate non-payment rate
Sellers with repeat buyer base
❌ COD OFF — loyal buyers likely have payment methods bound already
For high-value auction items, disabling COD is strongly advisable; for low-price quick auctions aimed at engagement, keeping COD on drives more competitive bidding.

🔖 Tips For Boosting Auction Traffic📌 Auction Preheating: Before LIVE, use private channels to warm up your audience or follower groups by sharing upcoming auction sessions, building interest, and acquiring traffic.
📌 Auction Ideal Duration: Have a reasonable auction duration (such as 30% of the total livestream time, or at least 1 hour per live session). A poor example would be auctions for 1 product that only make up 5 minutes throughout the entire LIVE.
📌 Auction Traffic Conversion: The first 5–10 minutes during the start of an Auction are critical. Ensure auction bidding & sales conversion takes place via frequent quick auction rounds during this time to ensure continuous traffic uplift.

What Happens During an Auction

As a seller, it's important for you to monitor the status of your auction, check auction items sold and know how to verbally encourage your viewers to complete their payment in time.

Sold Items View

Once viewers successfully bid on an item, an order is automatically created for the winning bidder and sellers can view their sold auction items in the Sold items tab, by order level or by product level.
  • The order-level view (sorted by most recently received orders) helps you to prioritize order processing, as you can quickly identify newly placed purchases that need immediate packing and shipment. This allows you to reduce the risk of delayed orders during peak traffic periods.
  • The product level view (broken down into individual SKUs) helps you to track item-specific demand, inventory movement, or fulfillment status. This allows you to identify which SKUs are popular auction items, and quickly replenish high-performing items or optimize your auction strategy per item to maximize sales opportunities.

image
‼️ Important:Upon clicking on any of the bid buttons, viewers will be first prompted to agree to the auction terms, add a payment method, and provide a shipping address. Once these are completed, viewers can participate in auctions.
Step 2: Choose a bidding format. During an ongoing auction, viewers can bid in 2 ways - via a Fixed Price bid or a Custom Bid.

Fixed Price Bid

image
This is a one-tap bid where viewers will directly bid the price shown on the button. Viewers cannot customise the bid amount here, as it will be automatically calculated based on the current bid price and a fixed price increment set by the platform. Fastest fingers wins - the viewer with the highest bid once the auction countdown timer ends, wins!

Custom Bid

image
With Custom Bid, viewers can set a maximum bid price and the platform auto-bids in increments on their behalf until their maximum bid is reached, or they are outbid.
  • If their maximum bid has been surpassed by others, viewers can continue bidding via Fixed Price bid, or set a new Custom Bid.
By doing so, viewers can participate in auctions more conveniently without constantly monitoring the bidding process. This helps viewers stay competitive and increase their chances of winning, especially in fast-moving or highly contested auctions!

Bid Price &
Incremental Bid Value
User Bid Type & Bid Amount
Example scenarios
1
Starting bid price: 100
Incremental bid value: 10
  1. User A custom bid: 1500
If there are no other users placing bids at the moment, the starting bid price set by the seller (100) will be the same bid price that is won by the user, regardless of the custom bid amount that was set by the user. If there are no other bids placed before the countdown ends, User A will win the bid at 100.
2
Starting bid price: 100
Incremental bid value: 10
  1. User A custom bid: 1500
  2. User B custom bid: 1600
As there are 2 users with custom bid and no users with fixed price bid, the auction price will immediately become 1510 (1500 + 10).
User A is outbidded, while User B is winning. Unless there is a new fixed price bid or a new custom bid placed that is higher than 1510, User B will win the bid at 1510.
3
Starting bid price: 100
Incremental bid value: 10
  1. User A custom bid: 1500
  2. User B custom bid: 800
As there are 2 users with custom bid and no users with fixed price bid, the auction price will immediately become 810 (800 + 10).User B is outbidded, while User A is winning. Unless there is a new fixed price bid or a new custom bid placed that is higher than 1500, User A will win the bid at 810.
4
Starting bid price: 80
Incremental bid value: 10
  1. User A fixed price bid: 90
  2. User B custom bid : 102
  3. User C fixed price bid: 100
  4. User D fixed price bid: 112
As there is a mix of users with fixed price bid and custom bid, the incremental bid value will be applied onto the fixed price bid. In this scenario, the bid price will jump from 80 -> 90 -> 100 -> 102 -> 112. The incremental bid value of +10 is applied onto the existing highest fixed bid price (80 -> 90 -> 100) until it was outbidded by the custom bid (102), upon which the incremental bid value was applied onto the custom bid, resulting in the final bid price displayed to be 112. Users A, B, C are outbidded, while User D is winning. Unless there is a new fixed price bid or a new custom bid placed that is higher than 112, User D will win the bid at 112.

Extended Bidding

image
If sellers had activated extended bidding, and a viewer placed a bid in the final X seconds (5s/7s/10s as pre-selected by seller):
  • A "+X seconds" animation shows on the auction card
  • The timer resets to the extended duration
  • Viewers can continue to bid until the time runs out
Step 3: Bid successful - Complete payment within 15 minutes
image
image
  • For users with a bound payment card, the auction order will automatically be charged to their payment card and a pop-up will display, "Congrats, you won!"
  • For users who do not have a bound payment card OR the payment via the bound payment card was unsuccessful, a pop-up will display with a 15-minute countdown timer to remind winners to complete their payment in time.
    • Users will also receive an email, inbox notification and app push reminder that directs them to the Order Center for payment completion

Payment Methods

To enjoy a seamless bidding experience, viewers are encouraged to bind a payment card to their account so successful bids can be processed instantly with automatic payment deduction. This helps avoid failed payments after winning an auction, prevents the need to re-bid on the same item, and reduces the risk of missing out on a great deal or losing the item to another bidder.

Primary Play: Auction Top-Selling Products for Traffic Generation (Hook Products)
GTM LeverStrategy
Positioning"Turn your best-seller into a crowd magnet" — use known-value products at ultra-low starting bids (e.g., 1 yuan) to pull in viewers
Target sellersSellers in categories with high price awareness (beauty, electronics accessories, trading cards, branded goods)
PlaybookEducate sellers on the "loss-leader auction" model: sacrifice margin on 1–2 hook SKUs to fill the LIVE room, then monetize through regular-priced follow-up items

Multi-Category / Established Sellers (Mid Traffic + Mid Conversion)

Primary Play: Regular Livestream + LIVE Auction Hybrid
GTM LeverStrategy
Positioning"Supercharge your regular LIVE with auction moments" — auctions as an engagement spike tool within existing streams
Target sellersSellers already streaming 3+ times/week with a broad catalog (fashion, home, general merchandise)
PlaybookRecommend inserting 2–3 auction "events" per hour of regular LIVE, using limited or exclusive SKUs to break monotony, boost watch time, and re-engage drop-off viewersExample LIVE rundown template (e.g., 0–10 min: hero product showcase → 10–15 min: auction drop → 15–25 min: catalog walkthrough → repeat)

High-Volume / Inventory-Heavy Sellers (High Traffic + Low Conversion)

Primary Play A: Flash Sale + Auction
GTM LeverStrategy
Positioning"Convert your traffic into GMV with a 1-2 punch" — Flash Sale captures intent; Auction sustains excitement
Target sellersSellers with large follower bases but below-average conversion rates; clearance/seasonal inventory holders
PlaybookOpen LIVE with a timed Flash Sale (5–10 min) to drive urgency and fast checkout, then pivot to low-starting-price auctions every 20–30s to keep the room buzzing; pair with giveaways to continuously grow viewer count
Primary Play B: Sudden Death Auction
GTM LeverStrategy
Positioning"15-second frenzy" — create extreme urgency to convert hesitant browsers
Target sellersSame high-traffic sellers, especially in high-ASP categories (jewelry, electronics, designer goods)
PlaybookUse "Sudden Death" mode for quick, decisive sales on high-demand items; extend auction timer on items where bidding wars develop to maximize final price

Recurring / Growth-Stage Sellers (Low Traffic, Building Audience)

Primary Play: Post LIVE Highlights as Preheat Videos
GTM LeverStrategy
Positioning"Every LIVE feeds the next one" — turn past auction highlights into audience-building content
Target sellersSellers committed to a regular LIVE schedule (2+ sessions/week) but still growing their viewer base
PlaybookAfter each LIVE, auto-clip top auction moments → post as short-form preheat videos with "Next LIVE" countdown sticker → pair with CRM push (followers, past buyers) 2–4 hours before next session

High-Frequency / Ad-Hoc Sellers (Operational Efficiency Focus)

Primary Play: Use Temporary Listings for Auctions
GTM LeverStrategy
Positioning"List it, sell it, ship it — in minutes" — remove friction for sellers auctioning one-off or rotating inventory
Target sellersThrift/vintage sellers, small-batch artisans (independent sellers or businesses that produce goods in limited quantities, e.g. handcrafted goods), bulk resellers (sellers who specialize in reselling excess, returned, overstocked, refurbished, or unsold inventory)
PlaybookUse Temporary Listings to skip full product setup; label items #1, #2, #3 at a physical packing station for instant post-auction fulfillment

  1. Can affiliate creators use Auction during their livestream?
No, Auction is currently available to sellers with official and marketing accounts only.
  1. Can Auction items be searched and purchased once a livestream ends?
No, Auction items only exist within an ongoing livestream. Once the livestream ends, Auction items will not be displayed anywhere within the seller's shop and cannot be searched for.
  1. How many Auction items can be added to my LIVE shopping bag?
You can add up to 300 SKU's into the Auction tab of your LIVE shopping bag, as auction product listings have a separate quota from your regular products within the "Buy now" tab.
  1. Can an auction product listing be edited or deleted after it's created?
Yes, an auction product listing can be edited or deleted before an auction starts or after an auction ends. Once the auction is ongoing, it cannot be edited or deleted. Sellers can edit the starting bid price, auction duration and auction format.
  1. Can I end an auction before the timer countdown ends?

Yes, any seller vouchers or platform vouchers are applicable to auction items, and the final bid price displayed on the pinned auction card excludes any applicable shipping fee, payment fees or tax charges. Applicable promotions are visible on the pinned auction product card, or within the auction product listing in the LIVE shopping bag and will automatically be applied upon checkout.
  1. What's the difference between an extended bidding auction and a sudden-end auction?
With extended bidding, any new bid placed within the last X seconds of the auction will automatically extend the auction by X seconds. Extensions continue until no new winning bids are placed before the timer expires. In a sudden-end auction, the auction ends exactly when the timer ends, without any further time extension.
  1. Can auction products be sold directly as a regular-priced product without any user bidding process?
No, auction product listings can only be sold through a LIVE Auction.
  1. Can I reuse a temporary auction product listing in my next livestream?
No, temporary auction product listings only last within the livestream it was created in. If you start a new livestream, simply create a new temporary auction product listing again.
  1. How does the dynamic sequencing of temporary auctions work? What happens when a buyer wins the bid but payment fails?
The system will continue numbering automatically across auction sessions.
  • If you start a temporary auction (e.g., #5) but no one places a bid, the next time you run a temporary auction it will still be labelled as #5. This is because there was no successful bid.
  • If someone wins #5 (regardless of whether payment is successful), the next auction you run will be labelled as #6.
  1. Once purchased, can auction items be cancelled, returned, or refunded?
Auction items follow the return and refund rules of TikTok Shop's Order Cancellation, Return and Refund Policy, as aligned with Auction Terms & Conditions.
  1. Is there a maximum starting bid price that sellers can set?
Sellers can set a maximum starting bid price of up to PHP 500,000 within each individual auction.
  1. Is there a minimum starting bid price that sellers can set?
Sellers can set a minimum starting bid price of up to PHP 1 within each individual auction.
  1. During my livestream, can I sell both regular product listings and also run a LIVE Auction at the same time?
Yes, within a single livestream, hosts can sell both regular product listings and auction product listings as both product listings are displayed to users within the LIVE Shopping Bag.

  1. Are there any requirements for viewers to place bids?

Viewers are allowed to bid up to a maximum of PHP 500,000 within each individual auction.
  1. Can viewers customize the bid amount they wish to bid?

  2. For Fixed Price bid, how does the platform set the bid amount increments?
The bid increment amount is determined based on the current auction price range, and a fixed increment value will then be applied onto the bid amount. Please see the table below:
